God among us -

Christ the Savior is born!  God incarnate comes to dwell among us!  The Church Fathers have written wonderful reflections about the glory, the good news, the true light that came into the world!  They describe the rhythm of the Word, existing before all time, entering time to effect our salvation, and returning to his divine place at the right hand of God is repeated throughout the scriptures.

This rhythm of God's mercy is proclaimed to us in Hebrews, "God spoke ... through the prophets; in these last days, he has spoken to us through the Son... When he had accomplished purification from sins, he took his seat at the right hand of the Majesty on high (Heb 1:1-6)!  In anticipatory response, Isaiah proclaims, "They shout for joy, for they see directly, before their eyes, the LORD restoring Zion" (Is 52:7-10)!  And the psalmist rejoices, "All the ends of the earth have seen the salvation by our God" (Ps 98:1-6)!  God himself becomes incarnate for He has remembered his faithfulness.  John expresses this mystery as only a mystic can, "The Word was with God, and the Word was God... And the Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us, ... No one has ever seen God. The only Son, God, who is at the Father’s side, has revealed him (Jn 1:1-18).

In the short time that remains before we celebrate the birth of our Savior, let us quiet our body, mind and soul, beg God our Father for just a glimpse of the unspeakable glory contained in this mystery, Emmanuel, God with us! – Bernadette Harmon for Fr. Francis Martin

"The true light, which enlightens everyone, was coming into the world. He was in the world, and the world came to be through him!" (John 1:9-10)
